Do You Have A Contagious Smile?

In a class of 30 students, what percentage of these students do you think would agree that mathematics is a great subject? Would you answer that “around 10 to 35%” is all you think would love mathematics? True, most children and even adult students today are not thrilled to solve mathematical equations.

In a similar way, our daily activities do not mean 100% joy and 0% problems. At times, we have considerable more problems than joyous occasions to deal with in our daily lives. This of course does not take into account today’s climate of fear and panic. Fortunately, some individuals are skilled in handling problems in a way that allows them to continue to be happy.

These seemingly “carefree people” as some might call them have one thing in common, optimism. Try remembering a colleague, a relative, a friend or someone from your community who has the brightest smile at the start and end of the day. How many times did you see that person frown? “Carefree” people are fun to be around because their attitude is contagious. When we display this kind of happy disposition, it can be good for us as well as others in the group who are affected by our “shiny” disposition. When you see a person that has such a cheery demeanor, why not take a chance and ask them what makes them feel the way they do? You may be pleasantly surprised in what you find out.

On Coping With Loss And Depression

This is a guest post by Tony Greene. Welcome Tony!

The medical term depression has been so commonly used that people tend to not take it seriously anymore. It is a very serious condition that could impair one’s life. Depression is very difficult. It can debilitate one’s normal functions, making even the most mundane tasks such as getting up from bed or eating breakfast seemingly difficult. It is sad to think that a lot of depressed individuals are not treated because of the high costs of therapy. However, coping with depression is still possible without professional help if one knows depression management. Here are a few things that can help people deal with depression. It is important to note however, that professional therapy is still very valuable for those with serious depression. These steps are just suggestions for alleviating the condition.

Staying active is one way to take one’s mind off depression and the gloom of familial loss. Primarily, activities help distract people from whatever it is that is causing their depression and it also helps channel unspent energies that build up when one is depressed. Keeping active also releases endorphins – natural mood boosters that somehow cheer people up. Doing things for others can take their mind off what is depressing to them and give them satisfaction in helping someone else.
