When There Is No Map?

When today is the day, and you are focusing on the what, where, when and how; what if there is no map to follow?

Every morning I look forward to Seth Godin’s blog that hits my email stream. Every day there is something for me to learn and use in my life. One of my favorties was about the subject of when there is no map for where you are going.

Seth talks about those who have done what hasn’t been done before. They had to create their own map. It is always easy to copy once a map exisits, but the copy is never as good as the original. The original is hard work, where to start, where to go, how do get it done? The end result though is the reward of all the hard work and dedication, perseverance and commitment to the task.

I need to make my map. This is a daunting thought, for I can be impulsive, change in mid course and wander all over because I want to discover more and more. I love to get in the car and take off without having any idea where I am going, or which way I will go to get there. I love to drive, and I love the adventure of what is over the next hill or around the next corner. My husband on the other hand is very focused and direct, he knows where he is going, how he is going and why he is going. I don’t need to tell you this has caused many adventures in our marriage. I can be focused when I have to be, I can be very disciplined when it is called for, but I am always looking for the fun of the day!

So I have a map to make, for I want to go somewhere where no one has yet traveled in the way that I would like to travel.

I will be asking for your opinions, advice and general thoughts.

I appreciate that you will come along for the ride!

Today is the Day!

Today is the Day! I have wanted to get this website up and running for the last two months! One thing after another has deterred me, or distracted me. We all fight the battle of too many things to do, not enough time in a day, or weekend. It is more than a time management problem, it is also a time protector problem. It is very difficult to be able to discern what is really important, what really needs to get done and what is just things we do because we think we have to.

So as not to make a total fool of myself, I have read many great comments on how to be a great blogger, the mistakes that bloggers make, and great blog titles. All these things are very helpful, true, informative and very important to us first timers, but sooner or later we have to start!

I know I have so much to learn, but I am starting where I am knowing that I will grow along the way. I have a passion for something that isn’t talked about very much today that I will be sharing in a future post. I am thankful for so many that have put help out there, Chris Brogan of Third Tribe, Barry Moltz @ BarryMoltz.com, and Seth Godin whose daily wisdom has really made me stop and think.

I am currently reading “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie. I never really thought that I was a worrying kind of person, just that I had a lot of concerns and things on my mind. I learned that I was a worrier and needed to stop, it was holding me back from what I wanted to do in life. I am taking each page of this book seriously having learned something about myself I didn’t see. The first thing I learned was Today is the Day! Yesterday is gone, and we aren’t promised tomorrow, so today is what matters. Do I care about the future, yes of course, but why worry about things that may never come to pass and be held back from what I need to do today? Is this easy, absolutely not, I have to remind myself about Today a lot through out the day!

So to anyone of you that has taken time to read this, I appreciate you! Today is your day!

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Robin
